SUNDAY GATHERINGS

Our weekly Sunday Circle gathering is a wonderful way to connect with your spiritual practice, in company with other like-minded folks. It's upbeat, fun, full of love, and a great way to spend your late Sunday morning!  Enjoy live music from both guest and house musicians, time for meditation, and talks by spiritual teachers from many different paths, all honoring the sacred in ourselves, each other, and all creation. Connect with an eclectic community of caring, creative, heart-wide-open people, committed to doing the work of Spirit together. For families, we offer special Children's and Youth Circles to support and nourish our young ones. Whoever you are, wherever you are, please come experience, express, and deepen your unique path of spiritual growth with us! "Where the Rubber Meets the Road"

Our guest speaker, Lawrence (Larry) Cohen, M.D., discusses both the pleasures and practical considerations that tend to arise as students of spiritual principles begin applying them to daily life.  Dr. Cohen brings deep insights from his personal spiritual journey, as well his residency in psychiatry, studies at the Himalayan Institute and over 25 years of serving as medical director of the Center for Complementary Medicine, www.complemed.net where he has helped countless patients find balance in body, mind and spirit. We'll also enjoy some wonderful new tunes from Chris Pfeiffer, www.chrispfeiffer.org one of the warmest, wisest singer/songwriters in Texas.

While cynics have long noted that the Spiritual Path is "a journey that might not end, to a place that might not exist," most Seekers understand it to be a life-long process of becoming.  Rudi will share his understanding of this process and some of the powerful sources/resources that have fed him along the way.

"Prayer - The Power of the Word"

Rudi will sing and discuss the nature of prayer with our guest speaker, Alejandro Sifuentes, a Licensed practitioner of Religious Science serving The San Antonio Center for Spiritual Living.  In addition to being a long-time student of Ayurveda and Yoga, he is also a noted jewelry designer who creates a wide variety of original work in his Studio/Gallery in Alamo Heights.

"Borders and Bridges:  Finding Security in an Uncertain World"

Rudi shares a variety of sacred scriptures and insights about building a sense of peace at a time of worldwide change, environmental catastrophe, economic upheaval and global terrorism.

June 27th
"Instruments of Peace"

Our guest speaker, Beverly Monestier is an international poet, writer, and peace activist who makes her permanent home on the beautiful,  war-torn, island of Cyprus. Her work address issues that confront humanity and touch the heart as well as the mind.  Her most recent collection of poetry, What The House Is Made Of, received the  prestigious 2009 Edwin M. Eakin Memorial Book Publication Award.   She founded the non-profit Synergy Foundation, and has lectured throughout Europe and the US to promote the peace process and intercultural understanding through literary arts.

 

June 20th
"Work, Success and Spiritual Growth"

Come celebrate Father's Day with a rich helping of uplifting music, poetry and creative ritual exploring the Divine Father alive in each of us.  Plus, Rudi will continue his series of discussions drawn from Eric Butterworth's book, Spiritual Economics, by examining various perspectives on how and what we see in our working life. And help co-create our altar this Sunday with photos and/or objects that reflect the father figure(s) in your life.

"Affirming and Embracing Life"

Our guest speaker, Dr. Luis Carlos Sanchez, is an experienced hospice chaplain, Religious Science minister and student of the Kaballah who brings a unique perspective to the process of welcoming change into our lives.  With music by Kimberlyn Montford and the Circle Singers.

"The Prosperity Process:  An Attitude of Gratitude"

We continue our discussions based on Eric Butterworth's book, "Spiritual Economics," by focusing on the power of having a grateful heart.  With more great music from gifted vocalist, Sarah Bading, singing with the Circle Band.

 

May 16th, 23rd, & 30th
"Spiritual Economics:  Money, Spirituality and Personal Prosperity"

In this three-part series, Rudolf explores various aspects  of abundance and economics, using Eric Butterworth's classic book, "Spiritual Economics." He will also be leading a series of follow-up discussions on the book on Wednesday nights, May 19, 26 and June 2, from 6-7pm at the Quaker Meeting House. Thanks to our amazing friend, Ellen Tisdale, a limited number of used copies of the book are available in the Lobby Shop for $10 each.

 

May 9th
"Honoring Our Mother:  Embracing the Divine Feminine Within Ourselves and Each Other"

Across many cultures throughout history, there have been many different faces and facets to the Divine Mother.  We'll celebrate Mother's Day by focusing on the creative and nurturing aspects of the Divine as Rudolf shares his music and meditations on the subject. 

 

May 2nd
"Speaking from the Heart"

By popular request, our good friend, Hal Robinson, returns to share more of his quiet warmth and wisdom. The Red Road Journey continues with Hal, founder of Dancing Bear Teaching Lodge, co-founder of the Healing Arts Center in Kerrville, and Gestalt psychotherapist.  And Rudolf has promised to bring some new music back from the Spring Retreat for the occasion!

 

April 25th
"Too Deep For Words: The Power of Poetry on the Spiritual Path"

Because April is National Poetry Month, and because poems are able to navigate through many areas theological prose tends to falter, Rudolf will share and discuss some of his favorite spiritual poems.

"Dealing with The Wanting Creature"  

What is the nature of the Wanting Creature that keeps us looking so longingly at the Greener Grass on the other side of the proverbial fence?  Rudolf reflects on the various ways this dynamic can be helpful to us in our spiritual growth.  He and vocalist Sarah Bading are also cooking up a couple of new songs focused on the subject, with with help from the Circle Band.

"The Sacred Arts of Rumi"

Join us in welcoming Nizami, a wonderful Sufi teacher playing traditional music of India and Pakistan. In the afternoon, Nizami will also be offering a workshop on Sufi dancing, as well as singing the poetry of Rumi in the original Persian. Find out more about it at our events page.

Linda is a New Thought teacher and senior minister at Unity Church of San Antonio, as well as the co-host of "Spiritual Parenting in Unity", on the online radio network, Unity.FM.

When Dr. Lucas was our guest speaker in September, his talk was so well received that Rudolf asked him to return to speak again at the morning service so they could work together.  It's bound to be an upbeat morning when these two join forces! This will be followed by an afternoon workshop focused on a fascinating, science-based approach to happiness and well-being, with some very practical tips and tools for enhancing your level of joy.

Dr. Don Lucas, a psychologist, professor, and author of the book, Being: Your Happiness, Pleasure, and Contentment (Hayden-McNeil) will be discussing the emerging facts regarding the sources of human happiness with his informative, fun, and engaging style. Dr. Lucas is the chair of the psychology department at Northwest Vista College in San Antonio, where his teaching has earned him a number of awards and a high degree of popularity with his students.
